Family History
5th
Generation Ellis County citizen: California had recently been
admitted into the union, the California Gold Rush was winding down, and
the first bridge across the Mississippi River was opened.
Charles
Dickens hadn't yet written "A Tale of Two Cities," Abraham Lincoln
hadn't been president, and Macy's Department Store didn't exist. The
all-iron warship, Darwin's theory of evolution, the Civil War, and the
Gatling gun were all in the future. Dallas was not yet an
incorporated city.
